Mary Jo “MJ” Campbell, the mother of television personality Kris Jenner, died at a Los Angeles hospital on July 16 at the age of 91. According to a death certificate obtained by a media outlet, the primary cause of death was acute cardiopulmonary arrest, with acute respiratory failure and metastatic lung cancer listed as additional conditions. The certificate notes that she was cremated on July 23 and that no autopsy was performed.
Jenner announced her mother's passing in an Instagram post on July 16, describing her as the “heart of the family” and thanking her for her sacrifices and guidance. Jenner's daughters, Kylie Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian, as well as other members of the Kardashian-Jenner family, also posted tributes.
The death occurred ten days before Campbell’s 92nd birthday. Earlier in the year, Jenner had shared photos from Campbell’s 91st birthday celebration at The Ivy restaurant.
Campbell was also the mother of Karen Houghton, who died of cardiac arrest in March 2024 at age 65.
