Flash Floods Ravage Kerr County, Killing Two and Damaging Hundreds of Properties

Texas emergency officials said the Guadalupe River rose rapidly, killing one person and prompting evacuations and road closures across Kerr County, according to WOAI. The Associated Press reported that heavy rain triggered flash flooding in the Hill Country, rescuing more than 70 residents while deploying over 1,300 responders. The BBC added that the surge echoed last year's deadly floods, with dozens of rescues as the river surged. Later, CNN noted that torrential rain in south-central Texas caused flash floods that killed at least two people and led to more than 230 rescues using boats, aircraft and vehicles.

USA Today confirmed two fatalities and the same number of rescues as rivers approached near-record levels. KSAT reported that a bridge over the Nueces River in Uvalde County collapsed after more than 10 inches of rain fell, prompting additional road closures and confirming at least two flood-related deaths in the region. Governor Greg Abbott warned that dangerous flooding remained possible downstream of the Nueces River as the state shifted from rescue to rebuilding, according to KERA News. KUT later reported that more than 490 homes and 100 businesses in Kerr County suffered damage, with two deaths recorded this year.
