Bridge over Nueces River collapses after heavy rains in Uvalde County
A bridge on FM 418 in Uvalde County gave way following more than 10 inches of rain, prompting road closures and confirming at least two flood-related deaths in the region.
The Texas Department of Public Safety’s South Texas Region captured video of the FM 418 bridge over the Nueces River collapsing on Friday in Uvalde County after heavy rainfall. The department posted images on Facebook, warning motorists to avoid flooded areas, obey road closures and not bypass barricades.
More than 10 inches of rain fell on Thursday, adding to several days of showers, according to local weather officials. A Uvalde Police Department spokesperson told reporters the city was virtually impassable for drivers due to the flooding.
State officials confirmed that at least one person died in the Uvalde area from the floods, with another fatality reported in neighboring Kerr County, Governor Greg Abbott said.
