Bryson DeChambeau Nears Lead at British Open as Scheffler Falters
Bryson DeChambeau posted a five-birdie round to finish one shot behind the leaders at Royal Birkdale, while top-ranked Scottie Scheffler slipped to -2 after a mixed start.
Bryson DeChambeau recorded five birdies and two bogeys on Thursday at the British Open, leaving him one stroke behind the clubhouse leaders Sungjae Im and Dan Brown, both at -4. The performance came after criticism from three-time Open champion Nick Faldo, who had questioned DeChambeau's ability on links courses.
World number one Scottie Scheffler, the tournament favorite, began with four birdies in his first six holes but made two bogeys in the final twelve, finishing at -2. The field includes 15 LIV Golf members, with DeChambeau and Jon Rahm among the most prominent.
The event, held at Royal Birkdale in England, continues through the weekend with the final round scheduled for Sunday. Television coverage on Thursday will be provided by Peacock from 1:30 a.m. to 4 a.m. ET and by USA Network from 4 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET.
