Trump urges ICE to keep vehicle stops; White House confirms continuation after shootings
President Donald Trump urged Immigration and Customs Enforcement to keep conducting vehicle stops despite two recent fatal shootings, AP reported. NBC echoed the president’s call, noting it conflicted with a newly announced pause in the practice after the deaths. After ICE briefly halted the stops, the agency lifted the pause and expanded officer training, CNN said.
The White House press secretary later confirmed that ICE would continue the vehicle stops, stating the decision aligns with the president and the Department of Homeland Security, NPR reported. The administration’s stance persisted despite calls from state officials and local leaders for investigations and policy reviews.
