Two Michigan Theaters Offer Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" in 70mm IMAX

Resumen

Christopher Nolan's film "The Odyssey" will be shown in true 70mm IMAX at Celebration! Cinema Grand Rapids North and the Michigan Science Center, one of only 25 U.S. venues offering the format.

Only two venues in Michigan are equipped to present Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" in the director's preferred 70mm IMAP format. Celebration! Cinema Grand Rapids North, located at 2121 Celebration Drive NE, and the IMAX Dome Center at the Michigan Science Center in Detroit will screen the film using the traditional 70mm film stock.

"The Odyssey" will be showing in 70mm IMAX at Celebration! Cinema Grand Rapids North & IMAX, in Grand Rapids, at 2121 Celebration Dr., according to IMAX.

The film, an adaptation of the classic tale of Odysseus, features a cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway. Nationwide, only 25 theaters are slated to exhibit the movie in this format, as reported by USA TODAY.

70mm IMAX uses film that is twice the width of standard 35mm, delivering higher resolution, greater color depth and finer detail. The larger reels and specialized projectors are expensive to maintain, which has limited the format's availability. Digital IMAX alternatives employ Christie 2K projectors that approximate the size of 70mm presentations but generally fall short in aspect ratio, sound fidelity and image resolution, according to industry critics.

Michigan also hosts several Digital IMAX locations, including AMC and Celebration! Cinema sites in the Detroit, Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor areas, but they do not provide true 70mm screenings.
