Trump claims vandals damaged Lincoln Reflecting Pool, officials dispute
President Donald Trump alleged that vandals had damaged the floor of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool while it was being drained for repairs. He repeated the allegation in statements reported by Forbes, saying the pool had been slashed despite providing no evidence. CNN later reported that its investigation found no sign of knife cuts or other vandalism, contradicting Trump's claim.
Photographs released by Forbes after the pool was emptied showed no visible gash or liner damage. Trump later announced that the pool would be refilled and reopened after a second drainage to address the damage. Investigators cited by The Daily Beast said the problems stemmed from flaws in the recent $14 million renovation rather than vandalism.
