Actor Sam Neill died of pneumonia, representative says
Sam Neill, 78, passed away from pneumonia after a remission from stage 3 angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, his spokesperson confirmed, correcting earlier reports.
Sam Neill died on July 13 in Sydney at the age of 78, his representative Philip Grenz said. The actor, who had been in remission from stage 3 angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma after receiving CAR-T cell therapy, succumbed to pneumonia, according to the statement shared with USA TODAY.
Grenz noted that recent media coverage contained "inaccuracies and outright falsehoods" about the circumstances of Neill’s death. He added that the family will hold a private memorial at Neill’s farm in New Zealand at a later date, respecting the actor’s preference for privacy.
The family announced the death on Instagram, emphasizing that Neill remained cancer-free and expressing gratitude to the hospital staff for their care. Neill had announced he was cancer-free in April following a clinical trial in Australia.
Neill was best known for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in the "Jurassic Park" franchise and had a distinguished career in film and television, including appearances in "The Hunt for Red October," "The Piano," "The Tudors," and "Peaky Blinders."
