Fire at Bangkok Beer Hall Kills 28, Leaves Exits Blocked
A blaze at a northern Bangkok bar on Sunday night killed 28 people and injured many others, with investigators citing blocked exits and the use of flammable sound-proofing material.
A fire erupted at a popular beer hall in northern Bangkok on Sunday night, resulting in 28 fatalities and numerous injuries, according to Thai authorities. Witnesses said the blaze originated near the venue's entrance and was followed by an explosion. Patrons attempting to flee broke front-window glass, while many who moved toward the rear encountered blocked or inaccessible exits, leading to a higher death toll in that area.
Survivor Atipat Wijan, whose band regularly performed at the venue, recounted the incident, saying he noticed a faint burning smell before the fire spread rapidly. He reported that two of his colleagues, including his girlfriend, were among those killed.
Investigators indicated that the bar had used inappropriate, highly flammable material for soundproofing, which may have contributed to the fire's intensity. Officials have not released detailed information about the victims or the precise cause of death.
