Tadej Pogačar achieves fifth Tour de France victory, setting several all-time records
The Slovenian rider won his fifth yellow jersey at 27, becoming the youngest five-time champion and adding to a series of record-breaking statistics.
Tadej Pogačar secured his fifth Tour de France win on Sunday, joining an elite group that includes Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain. At 27 years and 10 months old, he is the youngest rider to claim five yellow jerseys, surpassing Merckx, who was 29 at his fifth victory.
Pogačar has finished on the overall podium in each of his first seven Tours, with two second-place finishes in 2022 and 2023. He is the first rider to win at least two stages in each of his first seven editions, accumulating 26 stage victories to date, which places him fourth on the all-time list behind Merckx, Hinault and Mark Cavendish.
His total of 71 days in the yellow jersey ranks third in Tour history, behind Merckx (111) and Hinault (79). Pogačar also holds the record for the most distinctive jerseys earned during a Tour career, with 189 across all classifications, including 75 white, 40 polka-dot and three green jerseys.
Unlike other multiple-time champions, Pogačar has completed every Tour he has started, matching Merckx’s record of zero abandonments. He has claimed 12 classification victories, exceeding Merckx’s ten and Hinault’s seven, though differences in jersey eligibility across eras are noted.
Pogačar’s contract with the UAE team runs through 2030, giving him four additional opportunities to add to his record tally.
