Philipsen wins Stage 17 as Alpecin-Premier Tech secures double victory

Resumen

Jasper Philipsen claimed a sprint win on the 174.7km stage from Chambéry to Voiron, narrowing the gap in the points classification, while Alpecin-Premier Tech also saw Mathieu van der Poel finish strongly.

Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Premier Tech) won the 174.7km Stage 17 of the Tour de France, finishing ahead of the peloton in Voiron after a lead-out by teammate Mathieu van der Poel. The victory gave Philipsen 59 points, reducing the deficit to green-jersey leader Mads Pedersen to seven points.

Pedersen defended his points-classification lead by winning the intermediate sprint and collecting 35 points, keeping the competition tight as the race moves into the Alpine stages.

Race leader Tadej Pogačar said the day was “hard” and praised teammate Adam Yates’s recovery from illness, noting Yates finished inside the time cut despite recent stomach problems.

Alpecin-Premier Tech celebrated a double success, with Philipsen’s stage win complementing van der Poel’s strong finish. The team will look to contest the final flat stage in Paris, while the upcoming mountain stages are expected to further shape the general-classification battle.

The stage also featured several crashes, including riders Tom Pidcock and Fred Wright, who were able to continue after brief injuries. The next stage, a 185km mountain route from Voiron to Orcières-Merlette, is slated for Thursday.
