Conor McGregor to undergo surgery and fulfill final UFC contract fight
After a 69-second loss to Max Holloway at UFC 329, Conor McGregor announced he will have knee surgery and aims to complete the last bout of his contract before considering free agency.
Conor McGregor, 37, said on Monday that he will undergo surgery to address a knee injury suffered in the opening seconds of his rematch with Max Holloway at UFC 329. The bout ended after 69 seconds when Holloway secured a TKO, and McGregor did not land a significant strike.
In a lengthy social-media post, McGregor expressed gratitude for his faith and indicated plans for pre-habitation, a return to training, and a final fight to fulfill the remaining obligations of his UFC contract. He also noted that he had previously discussed a timeline with UFC officials, targeting an April 2027 return after the Holloway fight, and that he intends to explore free agency once the contract is completed.
"I'm going to test free agency. If it is an unbelievable UFC deal, then it'll be signed, for sure," McGregor told Uncrowned. He added that he expects to be among the highest-paid fighters and will assess future opportunities after his contract ends.
