Vinod Khosla group agrees to buy Seattle Seahawks for $9.6 billion
Sportico reported that venture capitalist Vinod Khosla and his family agreed to purchase the Seattle Seahawks, pending NFL owners' approval. USA Today noted that the estate of the late Paul G. Allen consented to sell the franchise for about $9. 6 billion. Fortune added that the deal was formally signed by Khosla's group.
NBC Sports said the acquisition would direct all proceeds to a nonprofit linked to the Allen estate. The Seattle Times reported the transaction, valued at $9. 612 billion, would set a record for an NFL franchise. Later NBC Sports indicated that NFL owners were scheduled to vote on the sale in August, with expectations of a smooth approval. Field Gulls summarized that the league vote was set for late August and the new ownership was expected to be confirmed before the season opener.
