Ukraine reports drone strikes on 11 Russian vessels in Sea of Azov

Resumen

Ukraine said its drone forces hit five tankers, five cargo ships and a tugboat in the Sea of Azov, while Russia's agriculture ministry said it is seeking alternative grain-shipping routes.

Ukraine announced that overnight drone attacks targeted 11 Russian vessels in the Sea of Azov, including five tankers, five cargo ships and a tugboat, according to a statement by drone forces commander Robert Brovdi on Telegram. The strikes were described as an effort to damage Russia's "shadow fleet" and to limit fuel supplies to the Crimea region.

Ukraine's military claims the attacks are part of a broader campaign that has hit more than 116 Russian vessels in the sea over the past nine days, including a previous strike on 21 oil tankers. The country has increased its drone production and is expanding attacks on Russian energy infrastructure and deeper into Russian territory.

Russia's Agriculture Ministry said it is developing alternative routes for grain shipments from the Sea of Azov to maintain export volumes and domestic food supply, stating that logistics will be redirected if necessary. The ministry added that the situation would not affect the domestic market or export capabilities.

"Alternative shipping routes are currently being worked out in collaboration with relevant agencies and the business community," the ministry said.

"The situation in the Azov Sea will not affect the domestic market's food supply or our country's export capabilities," the statement added.

Unspecified sources reported that shipping in the area remained restricted on Tuesday, but Russian authorities have not confirmed any formal traffic limitations.
