Sinner defeats Djokovic to reach Wimbledon final against Zverev

Summary

Jannik Sinner beat Novak Djokovic in straight sets to book a Wimbledon final slot opposite Alexander Zverev, while Djokovic's quest for a 25th Grand Slam title continues.

Jannik Sinner overcame Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the Wimbledon semi-final, securing his place in the championship match against Alexander Zverev. The Italian, world number one, did not face a break point until the third set and closed the match with an ace, finishing the contest with a love service game before embracing Djokovic at the net.

It was Sinner's 99th Grand Slam match win and his second consecutive Wimbledon final appearance, making him the first Italian to reach multiple finals at the tournament. He will aim to become the 10th man in the Open era to retain the Wimbledon title.

"It's the most special tournament we have. It means a lot to me to play another final here," Sinner said. "Playing against Novak, he is a huge inspiration – not only for you guys but for the new generation – what he is still doing is amazing, incredible. We always have very, very tough matches. I'm very happy with this performance."

Djokovic, who was cheered as he left Centre Court, remains one win away from surpassing Margaret Court's record for most Grand Slam singles titles. He will need to win the final to claim a solitary 25th major.

Sinner, who has not dropped a set since his opening match, served 16 aces on Friday and hit 40 winners while committing 15 unforced errors, according to match statistics. He will face Zverev, whom he has beaten in 10 of their 14 previous meetings, in Sunday's final.
