Passenger Nearly Sucked Out of Ryanair Flight After Window Failure
A Ryanair Boeing 737 experienced an in-flight window loss at 20,000 feet, causing rapid decompression and a passenger to be partially ejected before being rescued by fellow travelers.
A Ryanair Boeing 737 operating from Thessaloniki to Memmingen returned to its departure airport after a passenger window detached at cruising altitude, causing rapid cabin decompression. Video posted on social media shows damage to an engine nacelle and the broken window. Passengers reported hearing a loud noise similar to a tire burst before the incident. One passenger described hearing screams and the sudden deployment of oxygen masks, adding that a strong odor was present. A 61-year-old Serbian passenger was partially pulled out of the aircraft, with his head and shoulders outside the window, but remained restrained by his seat belt. Fellow travelers held him until he could be pulled back inside. The man was treated for friction burns, according to Michalis Giannakos, president of the Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Employees. Ryanair said the aircraft landed safely and passengers were taken to the terminal, with one passenger receiving medical assistance on the ground.
