Irish police seek Middle Eastern asylum seeker linked to murder of New York expatriate
Authorities in Ireland are searching for a 28-year-old asylum seeker suspected of killing Jamey Carney, a 43-year-old New York mother living in Killarney, after she was found dead by her daughter.
Irish police have identified a 28-year-old male asylum seeker from the Middle East as a "person of significant interest" in the murder of Jamey Carney, a 43-year-old American who had lived in Killarney for five years. Carney was discovered on Tuesday afternoon with multiple head injuries by her 13-year-old daughter, who called a family friend after finding the scene.
Investigators say Carney had known the suspect for about 18 months, having met him at a pro-Palestine demonstration. A police source told the Irish Sun that the two remained in contact in the months before the killing. The suspect is believed to have left Ireland shortly after the crime; police have issued alerts at ports and airports and are examining possible travel routes, including a bus ride to Dublin and a subsequent flight to Istanbul.
Gardai are reviewing security footage from the home and surrounding area dating back to early July to trace movements. The victim, who worked for a healthcare consulting firm and was active in local sports, heritage, and activist groups, was described by local councillor Martin Grady as a "loving, caring mother."
Carney's family is traveling from the United States to Ireland, and her daughter is receiving support from relatives.
