Meta pulls Instagram AI image generator after backlash
Meta introduced the Muse Image AI tool on Instagram, which automatically incorporated images from public accounts into its training set, according to Engadget. The company said users could disable the feature while keeping their profiles public, as noted by TechCrunch. The rollout prompted criticism over consent, and the actors' union SAG-AFTRA urged members and other Instagram users to opt out, Variety reported.
The New York Times added that talent agencies and creators voiced privacy and copyright concerns. After three days of criticism, Meta disabled the Muse Image feature on Instagram, Deadline reported. TechCrunch and other outlets said the company cited user feedback as the reason for pulling the tool.
