Trump switches to older Air Force One as Qatar jet receives rapid upgrades
President Donald Trump flew back from the NATO summit on an older Air Force One aircraft, while the Qatar-gifted jet was dispatched to RAF Mildenhall for a troop-tour and security work, AP News reported. The decision followed Secret Service advice that the newly retrofitted jet did not yet meet required security standards, according to Forbes. After the brief stop in the United Kingdom, Trump continued to Joint Base Andrews on the legacy plane, as detailed by NPR.
The Qatar jet then underwent rapid security upgrades at the UK base, a process described by Forbes as swift and costly. Aviation specialists questioned the jet’s readiness and Democratic lawmakers criticized the speed and expense of the work, Forbes added.
