Mark Cuban sues Mavericks owners over Valley View arena disclosures
Former Dallas Mavericks majority owner Mark Cuban filed a court petition seeking details on the team’s Valley View arena project, alleging he was excluded from development opportunities promised in the sale agreement.
Dallas County judges have received a petition from Mark Cuban, who sold his majority stake in the Mavericks to Miriam Adelson and Patrick Dumont. Cuban asks the court to compel the ownership group to reveal the financing, corporate structure, and contractual terms of the planned arena on the former Valley View mall site, asserting that prior agreements give him a right to participate in related development projects.
The filing alleges that Dumont engaged in "adversarial business practices" that prevented Cuban from accessing information about the arena and a potential casino development. Cuban claims he learned of the Valley View purchase only after it appeared in a public SEC filing and says the ownership has not disclosed plans to acquire additional land nearby.
The Adelson and Dumont families declined to comment, and Cuban’s attorneys did not respond to requests for comment. Former Mavericks shareholder Frank Zaccanelli, who helped negotiate past ownership deals, described Cuban’s legal position as "perhaps the weakest legal position I've ever heard of in 50 years of business."
The dispute follows a 2023 sale that left Cuban with a 27% stake and a verbal understanding that he would retain input on basketball operations while Dumont would manage business matters, including a proposed integrated resort casino. Cuban’s petition could precede further litigation that might affect the arena project’s timeline.
