Mass-casualty incident declared after MTA bus collides with building in Pikesville

Summary

A second-alarm response was activated after an MTA bus struck a building on Reisterstown Road, injuring 28 people, including one critical patient, and prompting a multi-agency emergency effort.

A mass-casualty incident was declared on Wednesday evening when an MTA bus crashed into a building in the 1500 block of Reisterstown Road in Pikesville, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department. The collision injured 28 people, with one victim taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Emergency responders dispatched a medevac helicopter, a Shock Trauma GoTeam, and fire crews to the scene. Baltimore County, Howard County and Anne Arundel County ambulances, as well as BGE personnel addressing downed power lines, were also on site. Seven additional vehicles were involved, including one that rolled over, and a person was trapped inside a car.

All patients had been transported by 7:18 p.m. The Maryland State Highway Administration closed MD 140 (Reisterstown Road) in both directions between Old Court Road and Sudbrook Lane, urging drivers to use alternate routes and anticipate extended closures.

Governor Wes Moore posted on X that his administration was closely monitoring the situation and thanked first responders for their actions. Baltimore County Councilman Julian Jones said he was in contact with the fire department and emergency partners, urging residents to stay clear of the area to allow crews to work safely.
