Arizona police close investigation into alleged cyberbullying of former 'Storage Wars' star Darrell Sheets

Résumé

After months of inquiry, Lake Havasu City prosecutors said no criminal charges will be filed in the case surrounding Darrell Sheets' death, concluding the investigation without proceeding.

Lake Havasu City police spent several months examining whether former "Storage Wars" participant Darrell Sheets had been the target of cyberbullying before his death in April at age 67. Detectives reviewed phone records, interviewed witnesses and examined a handwritten note found near Sheets' body that referenced "bullying" on social media. The investigation also uncovered a series of unusual messages, including a text that read, "We having fun yet?" and a report of a call in which a voice whispered, "50 thousand dollars."

Sheets' alleged harasser was interviewed but declined to disclose their whereabouts at the time of Sheets' death, claiming they had been receiving death threats themselves. Police described the individual as "completely uncooperative" and noted they denied any involvement in the incident.

Prosecutors in Lake Havasu City decided not to file charges, stating the case could not proceed because Sheets was deceased and unable to testify. The decision effectively closes the investigation into the alleged cyberbullying campaign that had been reported by Sheets' former rival, Rene Nezhoda.
