Analysts Question Whether SpaceX Stock Can Turn Average Investors Into Millionaires

摘要

Financial analysts note that SpaceX's trillion-dollar valuation makes it unlikely for most investors to achieve millionaire status without large capital or decades of holding, suggesting other opportunities may be more suitable.

Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) debuted on the Nasdaq with a market value near $1.8 trillion, the largest valuation for a newly listed company. While the firm dominates the commercial launch market and operates the Starlink satellite internet service, analysts say its size creates a steep hurdle for average investors seeking millionaire returns.

Assuming an investor could allocate $50,000 to SpaceX today, the stock would need to appreciate roughly twenty-fold to reach a $1 million portfolio, implying a market cap of about $36 trillion. Some Wall Street forecasts project a valuation in the $30-trillion range over the next 15-20 years, but analysts consider that scenario unlikely.

"SpaceX's initial large valuation works against it. It's much easier to increase 20x from a $1.7 billion base than from nearly $2 trillion," one analyst noted.

The analysis compares SpaceX to Tesla, whose IPO valuation of $1.7 billion allowed a $5,000 investment to exceed $1 million after a 20-year run. By contrast, SpaceX would require either a substantially larger upfront investment or a much longer holding period for comparable gains.

While the company’s current business—launch services, AI-related infrastructure, and Starlink—remains solid, analysts stress that future wealth creation for retail investors hinges on the successful execution of ambitious projects such as space-based data centers and the capture of a projected $28.5 trillion addressable market.

"I do not doubt that SpaceX will eventually make some retail investors millionaires, but I don't believe it will happen for the average investor anytime in the next decade or so," the analyst added.

Given the uncertainties surrounding long-term market performance, the commentary suggests investors may find more realistic millionaire-maker opportunities in companies with lower current valuations.
