Trump-backed "Freedom Fuel" stations sell gasoline at $3.47 in Philadelphia area

Summary

Gas stations rebranded as "Freedom Fuel" in the Philadelphia-South Jersey region are offering regular gasoline at $3.47 per gallon, a price highlighted by the White House as part of a Trump administration initiative to lower fuel costs.

Gas stations in the Philadelphia-South Jersey area that have been rebranded as "Freedom Fuel" are selling regular gasoline for $3.47 per gallon, according to on-site pricing. The White House promoted the price in a July 7 post on X, describing the effort as part of President Trump’s drive to reduce pump prices this summer.

The $3.47 price is lower than many nearby stations, though at least two competitors were listed at two cents per gallon less. AAA reported a national average of $3.79 on July 7. Customers at the stations said the lower price provided modest relief amid broader concerns about the cost of living. "It’s nice to save a little bit of money because I’m a college student trying to get through college," said Airah Miller, a student filling up in Warminster, Pennsylvania.

Some patrons were unaware of the political connection. Dan Soboloski, a mechanic who fuels his work truck in New Jersey twice a week, said he does not vote and was not familiar with the White House initiative, but appreciated any effort to address high fuel costs. Andre Goripow, a regular at a Southampton station, emphasized the practical need for affordable gasoline regardless of political affiliation.

The initiative’s funding and operational details have not been disclosed. A manager at a Bensalem location declined to comment, and a station that appears to be a BP brand displayed the $3.47 price, nearly 40 cents below a nearby Sunoco station charging $3.99. The White House has not responded to requests for additional information.

Critics noted that the price reduction is limited in scope. Jim Lehman, visiting from South Carolina, called the effect "a drop in the bucket" and suggested the administration’s actions were insufficient to curb overall price increases.
