ICE agent shoots undocumented Mexican man during attempted arrest in Houston
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says an ICE agent fired in self-defense after a suspect attempted to flee and ram a police vehicle, killing the man in east Houston.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported that an undocumented Mexican national was shot and killed Tuesday morning during an attempted traffic stop in the 6800 block of Canal Street, east Houston. The agency said the stop was part of a targeted enforcement operation and that the suspect, identified as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, tried to flee, rammed an ICE vehicle and attempted to run over an officer. ICE stated the agent fired his weapon in self-defense.
Emergency responders treated Araujo for a gunshot wound to his right flank and transported him to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Three other individuals were detained at the scene. Federal investigators, including ICE personnel, remain on site, with the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General and the FBI conducting separate investigations.
