Typhoon Maysak kills two, triggers mass evacuations in Guangxi

The Guardian reported that Typhoon Maysak killed two people and forced the evacuation of about 48,000 residents in Guangxi province, southern China. The storm caused dam breaches and flooding that threatened reservoirs, prompting local officials to raise the flood-control emergency to its highest level. Deputy mayor of Nanning, Wei Jiang, warned that water levels at several reservoirs had risen sharply.

The Ministry of Water Resources coordinated rescue efforts and monitored water levels, according to Xinhua News Agency. Authorities continued to relocate residents and reinforce flood defenses as the situation developed.
