The incident occurred east of Limah, Oman. No injuries or environmental damage were recorded, although the vessel sustained significant damage.
Iranian state television said the ship ignored warnings before the strike, while a U.S. source cited by Axios linked the attack to Iran's Revolutionary Guards, which it said also targeted another commercial vessel in the strait. The United States and Iran are currently engaged in cease-fire negotiations, but the incident underscores ongoing tensions over navigation rights in the strategically vital waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a key route for global oil shipments. Tehran has warned it may act against vessels that do not follow an authorized corridor along its coast and has floated the idea of charging fees for passage, a proposal the United States has opposed.
