Singer SZA Announces Formal Autism Diagnosis on Instagram
Grammy-winning artist SZA confirmed a recent autism spectrum diagnosis via a post on her private Instagram account, also mentioning her stance on AI and upcoming music projects.
Grammy-winning singer SZA used a private Instagram account on July 5 to disclose that she has been formally diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. The post included a copy of medical documentation stating that she presents a pattern of scores and behaviors consistent with the condition and notes a qualitative impairment in reciprocal social interaction.
In the caption, the artist said she "finally took the time and got formally diagnosed" and linked the diagnosis to her strong pattern-recognition abilities. She also indicated that the revelation informs her opposition to artificial intelligence, referencing earlier criticism of an AI-music platform.
SZA has also used the same account to announce that new music is forthcoming. In a separate post on her main profile, she credited collaborator Steve Lacy with helping revive her creative drive after a period of low inspiration following recent album cycles and a tour.
Fans responded with supportive comments, expressing anticipation for her upcoming releases.
