Prince Harry skips Invictus Games anniversary event during UK visit
Prince Harry did not attend the Birmingham Invictus Games anniversary ceremony, appearing instead at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, days after losing a privacy lawsuit against Associated Newspapers.
Prince Harry was absent from the Birmingham ceremony marking the first anniversary of the Invictus Games partnership with London Northwestern Railway. The event, held on Saturday, featured television presenter JJ Chalmers, who spoke on behalf of the Prince and the Invictus Games Foundation while unveiling a specially branded locomotive called "The Spirit of Invictus."
Earlier in the visit, Harry spent time at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, meeting veterans and nursing staff. His representatives said media access to the hospital was limited and that the visit was adjusted because of a heat wave and the building’s constraints.
The Prince’s non-attendance follows his recent defeat in a High Court case brought by Associated Newspapers Limited over alleged privacy breaches. The court dismissed the claims, finding insufficient evidence of unlawful information gathering, and the publisher indicated it would seek recovery of legal costs.
Harry’s UK trip has been noted for the absence of state-funded security and ongoing speculation about a possible meeting with the royal family, but no official comment has been provided.
