NASA's Webb Telescope Discovers New Moon Orbiting Uranus
NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has identified a previously unknown, six-mile-wide moon orbiting Uranus, increasing the planet's total known moons to 29.
NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has identified a previously unknown moon orbiting Uranus, increasing the planet's total known moons to 29. The discovery was made during observations in February using the telescope's near-infrared camera. The newly found moon is estimated to be approximately six miles (10 kilometers) in diameter. Its small size and faintness likely contributed to it remaining undetected during Voyager 2's flyby nearly four decades ago. Uranus's moons are traditionally named after characters from the works of Shakespeare and Alexander Pope. This latest addition, currently unnamed, continues that tradition.
