Trump says Freedom Fuel Network will cut gas prices at 25 Philadelphia-area stations
President Donald Trump announced that the Freedom Fuel Network will lower gasoline prices at 25 stations in the Greater Philadelphia area on Friday, ahead of the Fourth of July, and reiterated his call for retailers to reduce prices nationwide.
President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that the Freedom Fuel Network will reduce gasoline prices at 25 stations across the Greater Philadelphia area on Friday, in advance of the Fourth of July holiday. The president said the move is intended to encourage other retailers to follow suit.
"As we approach America’s 250th Birthday, I am pleased to announce that a very smart retailer, located throughout the Northeast, is stepping up, and wishing the people of Philadelphia a 'Happy Birthday!'" Trump wrote on his social-media platform.
Trump added that oil prices are falling and that gasoline prices are also decreasing, though he said the decline is not as rapid as he would like. He previously urged gasoline retailers to lower prices immediately, citing recent drops in crude oil futures to around $68 a barrel.
The announcement comes amid broader discussions about fuel costs, with the national average price for regular gasoline reported at $3.85 per gallon, while Pennsylvania’s average stood at $3.99 per gallon, according to the American Automobile Association.
California Governor Gavin Newsom’s press office responded to Trump’s earlier comments, attributing higher fuel costs to the conflict with Iran and related tax policies, but did not comment on the Philadelphia price-cut initiative.
