CDC details tick identification and disease risks
According to FOX Weather, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention detailed the appearance, geographic range and illnesses transmitted by several common tick species in the United States. The agency listed the key visual characteristics that help the public differentiate species such as the black-legged, lone star and American dog tick. It explained where each species is most frequently encountered, noting regional hotspots for Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and other tick-borne illnesses.
CDC officials warned that bites can lead to serious health problems if not treated promptly. The guidance concluded with a recommendation for regular skin checks and immediate removal of any attached ticks.
