Alibaba and U.S. payment processor settle DOJ case with $600 million payment

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. and its U. S. payment processor AUS Merchant Services settled a Department of Justice case in the United States, agreeing to pay $600 million, Fox Business reported. The deal is a non-prosecution agreement that includes penalties and forfeitures.

The Justice Department said the companies allowed illegal pharmaceutical and controlled-substance sales on their marketplaces from 2016 through 2024. Both parties acknowledged that their payment services were used to process those transactions. The $600 million will be split between fines and the return of illicit proceeds. The settlement concludes the federal investigation into the matter.
