Researchers Begin First Human Trial of Epigenetic Therapy for Glaucoma

Researchers at UCLA, Stanford University and the University of Washington began a Phase 1 trial administering an investigational epigenetic reprogramming therapy to a patient with glaucoma, Yahoo reported. The therapy seeks to reprogram damaged optic nerve cells to restore their function. The trial represents the first human application of this epigenetic approach.

The study is being led by a team that includes epigenetics expert Steve Horvath, journalist Jeffrey Goldberg and aging researcher Matt Kaeberlein. Participants will be monitored for safety and efficacy as part of the Phase 1 investigation.
