San Jose Sharks acquire Darnell Nurse from Edmonton Oilers in trade for Nikita Mukhamadullin and rights to Wyatt Sharp

Summary

The Sharks received defenseman Darnell Nurse and the Oilers obtained Nikita Mukhamadullin along with the rights to prospect Wyatt Sharp, as part of a multi-player deal.

The San Jose Sharks have traded for veteran defenseman Darnell Nurse, sending 24-year-old Nikita Mukhamadullin and the rights to 21-year-old prospect Wyatt Sharp to the Edmonton Oilers. Nurse, 31, posted 24 points (seven goals, 17 assists) in 82 regular-season games for Edmonton last season and appeared in six playoff games without registering a point. He is under an eight-year, $74 million contract that runs through the 2027-28 season, with an average annual value of $9.25 million.

Sharks general manager Mike Grier said, "> Darnell is a strong, veteran, mobile defenseman who eats up top-pair minutes against some of the best talents in the NHL, and brings a physical element every shift. He brings significant leadership qualities and experience from his time in Edmonton, which will be valuable to our group. We’re excited to have a player like him join our organization."

Nurse ranks fifth among Oilers defensemen in career points with 324 and second in games played at 798. He holds the franchise records for blocked shots (1,467) and hits (1,692). Drafted seventh overall by Edmonton in 2013, he has spent his entire 12-year NHL career with the Oilers, contributing 29 points in 100 playoff games, including appearances in the 2024 and 2025 Stanley Cup Finals.

Mukhamadullin, a first-round pick (20th overall) by the New Jersey Devils in 2020, recorded five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 50 games this season, his third with San Jose. He has totaled 22 points in 83 games during his tenure with the Sharks. Sharp, selected in the fourth round of the 2025 draft, has not yet signed an NHL contract but posted 19 points in 37 games for Western Michigan University last season.
