Taylor Swift seeks dismissal of trademark lawsuit over "Life of a Showgirl" ahead of wedding
Taylor Swift has filed a motion to dismiss a trademark infringement suit brought by Las Vegas performer Maren Wade, arguing the two brands are unrelated and unlikely to cause consumer confusion.
Taylor Swift's legal team filed a motion on Tuesday asking a judge to dismiss a trademark infringement lawsuit filed by Las Vegas showgirl Maren Wade. The suit alleges that Swift's album title "The Life of a Showgirl" infringes on Wade's "Confessions of a Showgirl" brand, which she says evolved from a column to a live show over 12 years. Swift's attorneys contend that the two products and services are distinct and that there is no realistic likelihood of consumer confusion, describing the claim as "absurd." They argue the case should be thrown out before Swift's upcoming wedding.
"There is no plausible likelihood of confusion between the plaintiff's brand and the defendant's album," the filing states.
Wade maintains that her brand has been built over more than a decade and that Swift's use of a similar phrase threatens to dilute it.
