Virginia, Maryland and D.C. Enact Wide-Ranging Laws on Policing, Schools and Wages

Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia enacted a suite of statutes covering police mask rules, school device restrictions, free menstrual products and a minimum-wage increase, WTOP reported. In Virginia, the legislation halted a ban on police face coverings, paused enforcement of a new assault-weapon prohibition and authorized judges to order intelligent speed-assistance devices for drivers exceeding one hundred miles per hour. Maryland’s measures imposed a ban on personal electronic devices in schools, mandated free tampons in campus health centers and introduced provisions on sealed cocktails, racehorse transport and lottery prize withholding. The District of Columbia raised its minimum wage to $18.

40 per hour, with a tipped-worker floor of $10. 30. All of these provisions took effect simultaneously, expanding regulation across the three jurisdictions.
