Montreal secured forward Ivan Demidov on an eight-year, $9.15 million-per-year extension, keeping a core of young players under $10 million each and giving the club salary-cap flexibility. Columbus retained defenseman Zach Werenski after he exercised his no-trade clause, signaling a continued partnership with the Blue Jackets.
New Jersey locked up captain Nico Hischier with a five-year, $58.5 million extension that includes an $11.7 million cap hit, preserving a top two-way center for the upcoming season. Nashville added forward Mavrik Bourque and defenseman Ilya Lybushkin from Dallas for two draft picks, a move praised as cost-effective.
Chicago extended defenseman Bowen Byram to an eight-year deal reportedly worth over $12 million per season, a contract that analysts question given his performance history. Toronto overhauled its goaltending by signing veteran Sergei Bobrovsky to a three-year, $21 million contract, a decision viewed as risky because of the goalie’s recent decline.
Utah acquired center Vincent Trocheck from the Rangers in a trade that also sent defenseman Sean Durzi and prospect Cole Beaudoin to New York, a transaction seen as mutually beneficial. San Jose signed Jacob Trouba and added Darnell Nurse, committing more than $17 million per season to two defensemen in their early thirties, a strategy that may limit future cap flexibility. Anaheim, meanwhile, lost several defensemen in free agency and trades without clear replacements, leaving its blue-line uncertain.
