Comcast splits NBCUniversal, Peacock and Sky into independent streaming unit
According to The Verge, Comcast announced that it would separate NBCUniversal, Peacock and Sky from its broadband and wireless businesses to create an independent streaming unit. The restructuring will place Peacock under its own corporate umbrella, requiring the service to generate profit and grow its subscriber base without support from the parent’s core infrastructure. Company executives indicated that the move is intended to sharpen focus on streaming as a distinct growth engine. Analysts noted that the split will test Peacock’s viability and could reshape Comcast’s overall strategy.
The decision also isolates Sky, allowing it to pursue its own market opportunities separate from the U. S. operations.
