Rubin Observatory Confirms LSST Camera Meets First-Year Performance Goals
The Vera C. Rubin Observatory reported that its LSST camera completed its first year of on-sky observations, demonstrating reliable operation of its 189 CCD sensors and confirming readiness for the Legacy Survey of Space and Time. According to Sciencecast, the camera was installed at the observatory a year earlier.
The instrument operated continuously throughout the year, meeting the performance targets set for the upcoming survey. Observatory officials said the successful first year validates the camera’s design and calibration. The achievement positions the LSST camera to begin the Legacy Survey as planned in the coming years.
