Former X-Men '97 Showrunner Beau DeMayo Discusses Marvel Dispute and OnlyFans Activity

Beau DeMayo, the writer who completed the scripts for the second season of the animated series X-Men ’97, was terminated by Disney-Marvel in March 2024, just weeks before the season’s debut on Disney+. The company said an internal investigation had uncovered findings that led to his immediate dismissal and a non-disparagement agreement was later imposed, which DeMayo has since challenged in a lawsuit scheduled for trial in July 2027.

In a Vanity Fair interview, DeMayo denied allegations of sexual misconduct that had been reported by trade sources, calling the claims false and offensive. He also said he faced discrimination as a queer Black man, describing comments from colleagues that suggested he was hired for diversity purposes.

DeMayo explained that Marvel was aware of his OnlyFans account before his termination and that the platform was considered separate from his work, provided he did not use it to promote the show. He said his content has become more explicit over time, reflecting a personal shift toward body positivity.

After leaving Marvel, DeMayo posted fan art of himself as Cyclops during Pride Month, which the studio reportedly said violated his exit agreement. Despite warnings that his name could be removed from the credits, he retains creator, executive-producer and writer credits on the season’s episodes that premiered on Disney+.

The scripts he finished were reportedly revised by supervising producer Jake Castorena after his departure. Sources cited in the report described DeMayo as a talented writer and noted that his OnlyFans activity might affect his career prospects.
