Summary

Danny Glover, 79, revealed he has been living with Alzheimer's disease, noting the condition has slowed his movement, speech and memory.

Actor Danny Glover, 79, told the "Today" program that he has been living with Alzheimer's disease for several years, which has slowed his movement, speech and memory. The disease, the most common cause of dementia, affects more than 7 million Americans and typically appears after age 65. The Alzheimer’s Association reports that the average life expectancy after diagnosis ranges from four to eight years, though some individuals live longer, and that there is no cure, only treatments that may slow symptoms.

Glover, a San Francisco native who studied at San Francisco State University and trained at the American Conservatory Theater, rose to prominence with his 1985 role in "The Color Purple" and later as Sergeant Roger Murtaugh in the "Lethal Weapon" series. Over his career he accumulated more than 170 acting credits and received an honorary Academy Award in 2022. In recent years he adopted a plant-based diet and appeared in promotional material for the Oakland restaurant Vegan Mob.
