IRGC Clashes with Kurdish Rebels in Western Iran Amid Ceasefire Talks
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said armed attacks by Kurdish-linked rebels in the country's western provinces killed several IRGC and police personnel, Fox News reported. The clashes occurred amid ongoing U. S. -Iran negotiations on a memorandum of understanding.
Security forces responded to the assaults across multiple locations in the Kurdish-populated area. Newsweek later quoted the Guard as confirming that two of its members were killed in a Kurdish attack and that a subsequent counter-operation also resulted in fatalities. The report warned that renewed Kurdish unrest could open a new front in Tehran's broader tensions with the United States and Israel. Analysts noted the fighting could complicate the diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran.
