The New York Times has added a new article that references body-camera footage of a January traffic stop involving former employee Dianna Russini. The updated piece, written by the same reporters who authored the original story, states that it is not certain whether the stop shown in the video is the same incident Russini described on a podcast.
According to a spokesperson for the Times Company, the earlier account of the incident, which included a claim that Russini FaceTimed an NFL coach to avoid a ticket, was deemed “unacceptable conduct.” The body-camera video, recorded on Jan. 19, the morning the Buffalo Bills dismissed coach Sean McDermott, confirms the timing of the stop but does not show a FaceTime call.
The newspaper’s revision leaves open the possibility that Russini may have been stopped twice that morning, with differing interactions reported in each instance. The Times has not issued a formal correction, citing uncertainty about whether an error occurred in the original reporting.
