Manhattan court releases $5.6 million owed to E. Jean Carroll after Trump appeal denied
A federal judge ordered the disbursement of more than $5.6 million to E. Jean Carroll following her successful sexual assault and defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump.
A Manhattan federal court has transferred over $5.6 million from a court-held escrow account to E. Jean Carroll, fulfilling the judgment from her 2023 sexual abuse and defamation case against President Donald Trump. The release was recorded on the case docket on July 14, indicating that the funds were moved on July 9, one day after Judge Lewis Kaplan ordered the payment.
Trump had sought to block the payment since June, but the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear his appeal on June 29, leaving the lower-court ruling in place. Carroll’s lead attorney, Roberta Kaplan, said the jury’s verdict found Trump liable for both sexual assault and defamation and that the damages have now been paid.
"Three years ago, a unanimous nine-person jury found President Trump liable for sexually assaulting and defaming E. Jean Carroll," Kaplan said in a statement.
Trump continues to deny any wrongdoing.
