Family of Argentine Soccer Player Found Dead After Venezuela Earthquakes
Rescuers recovered the bodies of Lucas Trejo's wife and two children three days after the earthquakes that killed more than 1,400 people in Venezuela.
Rescuers in Venezuela announced Saturday night that the wife and two young children of Argentine footballer Lucas Trejo were found dead after being missing for roughly 72 hours following the recent earthquakes. The victims were identified as Yanina Maranella and her children, Aarón and Ainhoa. Trejo, who was in Caracas with his club when the tremors struck, had been awaiting news while teammates, volunteers and relatives searched the rubble.
Authorities said the bodies were recovered from collapsed structures as rescue operations continue across the country, which has recorded more than 1,400 fatalities, thousands of injuries and a large number of displaced residents. The football community in Venezuela expressed condolences, and Trejo's club issued a statement of support for the defender.
The earthquakes, which struck the nation last week, have left rescue crews working to locate additional victims and provide assistance to those affected.
