Storms Mekkhala and Higos Trigger Fatal Floods and Landslides in Japan
Tropical storms Mekkhala and Higos brought heavy rain that triggered landslides and flooding across western Japan, AP News reported. The intense precipitation caused rivers to overflow and slopes to give way in several prefectures. One landslide collapsed a house, killing a man in his 70s.
Emergency crews rescued residents and treated three people who sustained injuries. Officials confirmed the death and the injuries, and warned of continued risk from the swollen waterways.
