Apple price increase turns current MacBook discounts into deeper savings
Apple has raised prices on its MacBook and iPad lineup due to higher memory-chip costs, making existing retailer discounts more valuable for a limited time.
Apple announced price hikes for its MacBook and iPad range, citing rising memory-chip costs. The adjustments come amid Amazon Prime Day, meaning discounts that were already in place now represent larger savings. For example, the 13-inch MacBook Air with an M5 chip, previously listed at $1,099, is on sale for $949.99 at Costco and will soon cost $1,299 at Apple, creating a $350 price advantage.
Retailers have updated some prices, but several stores still list pre-increase amounts. Costco’s member-only deals are valid through June 26-27, while Amazon and Best Buy continue to show older pricing for certain models. Buyers are advised to act quickly if they are considering a purchase.
Current promotions include the MacBook Neo, which now sells for $589.99 for the base 256 GB configuration at Amazon and Costco, a $110 discount against the new $699 price. The MacBook Air with an M5 chip and 512 GB storage is available for $949 at Amazon, Best Buy and Costco, compared with Apple’s $1,299 price. Higher-end 14-inch MacBook Pro models with the M5 chip are listed for $1,549.99, offering roughly $450 off the revised MSRP.
Apple’s iMac with an M4 chip is also seeing a price gap; the base 8-core model with 16 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD is offered for $1,149.99, $350 less than the new $1,499 price.
Consumers are encouraged to verify the latest pricing with individual retailers, as some have already transitioned to the new Apple rates.
