Hornets in Trade Talks for LaMelo Ball as Multiple Teams Express Interest
NBA sources say the Charlotte Hornets are negotiating a possible trade for point guard LaMelo Ball, with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks among the teams showing interest.
NBA trade reports indicate that the Charlotte Hornets are actively discussing a possible deal involving point guard LaMelo Ball. League sources cited by journalists say several teams, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks, are pursuing the player.
The Timberwolves are described as having "undeniably serious" interest, though they reportedly want to retain forward Jaden McDaniels and avoid moving guard Donte DiVincenzo while he recovers from an Achilles injury. The Raptors are said to have renewed discussions that began last summer, seeking to improve their point-guard depth.
Milwaukee’s interest is noted as dating back to before the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, leaving uncertainty about the current level of pursuit. One suggested scenario for Minnesota involves expanding a three-team deal that would send Julius Randle to Brooklyn, requiring a full salary match that could be achieved by including DiVincenzo.
Analysts highlight Ball’s recent performance, noting a slight decline in scoring to 20.1 points per game but emphasizing his leadership and playmaking abilities. With three seasons remaining on his contract and salaries of $40.8 million next season, $43.6 million in 2027-28 and $46.4 million in 2028-29, he remains a valuable asset for teams needing a point-guard upgrade.
