Detroit Lions release cornerback Terrion Arnold after felony bond hearing

Summary

The Lions terminated Terrion Arnold's contract hours after a judge set a $1 million bond on felony kidnapping and robbery charges stemming from a February incident in Florida.

The Detroit Lions announced the release of cornerback Terrion Arnold on Monday, hours after a Hillsborough County judge set a $1 million bond and imposed conditions that include surrendering his passport and avoiding contact with co-defendants. Arnold, a former first-round pick who joined the team in 2024, faces eight felony counts, including four kidnappings and four armed robberies, related to a February 4 incident at an Airbnb in Largo, Florida.

According to court documents, a burglary at the rented property resulted in the theft of roughly $250,000 in cash, jewelry and other items. Police allege that Arnold and associates later lured a private driver and two other men to an apartment, where the victims were assaulted and held at gunpoint before being released. Prosecutors say Arnold observed the assault via a live-stream set up by an associate, and that he coordinated the plan through a group chat.

The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office had asked that Arnold be detained without bail pending trial, but the request was denied. Arnold turned himself in on June 24 and his attorneys issued a statement denying the allegations and questioning the credibility of testimony from other defendants.

"Terrion Arnold categorically denies any involvement in the matters underlying the allegations made against him and maintains his innocence," the statement read.

The Lions confirmed they were aware of the charges at the time of Arnold’s arrest and chose to terminate his contract shortly after the bond hearing.
